Hiking and Backpacking

Join me on a Hike

I grew up in the Dolomites, surrounded by mountains that were always part of the landscape. But it was photography that first got me out on the trails. Looking for light and quiet places slowly turned into a love for hiking itself. I started with easy walks and gradually took on more challenging routes. Though, I need to admit that I still avoid anything too exposed (heights aren’t really my thing!). I’ve hiked through some of the most beautiful countries in the world, from the Dolomites in Italy to the Andes in Peru.

This blog is a space to share some of these hikes. Below I list my favorite hikes, but you can find more inspiration under each destination.

FAQ on Hiking

If you’re just getting into hiking, there’s no need to invest in expensive gear. Start with the essentials: moisture-wicking clothing, sturdy shoes or boots, merino wool socks, and a daypack. Pack weather-appropriate layers, water, snacks, a first-aid kit, and a map or GPS. Don’t forget sunscreen for UV protection. If you’re hiking in cooler weather, add a hat and gloves. With the right gear, you’ll feel confident and enjoy your time on the trail.

To prepare for a hike, research your chosen trail and check the weather conditions in advance. There are many helpful apps, such as AllTrails, to guide you. Create a packing list of essentials, and make sure you have enough food and water for the entire trip. For added safety, let someone know your hiking plans, including your route and expected return time.

The best time to hike depends on the location, but generally, spring and fall offer mild weather and fewer crowds. Summer is great for higher elevation trails, while winter hikes may require special gear for snow and ice. Always check local conditions before heading out.

If you encounter wildlife, always observe from a safe distance and avoid feeding or approaching the animals. Familiarize yourself with local wildlife guidelines, especially for potentially dangerous animals, such as bears or snakes, and know how to react safely in those situations.

Leave No Trace principles are designed to minimize your impact on the environment while enjoying the outdoors. Key principles include packing out all trash, staying on designated trails, respecting wildlife, and minimizing campfire impact. Following these guidelines helps preserve natural areas for future generations.
